Hello all!
Thought I would share some of the night shots I took in one of the larger towns in the Northern Alberta area called Peace River. It is seated in a lovely valley with the Peace River inevitably flowing through it. Since I was down there volunteering as a basketball coach, I thought I would take the opportunity to plant my camera on a hill and see what I got. Thanks to a friendly bus driver who offered to drive me to the top of said hill, this is what I got.
Here is my favourite shot from that night. Looking west, here is the Peace River Bridge. I love the colours I was able to get out of this shot, and the fact that the horizon, middle ground and foreground take up almost exactly a third of the photo each is pleasing.
This is the view from the south. Though I am not as pleased with this picture, I still find it fun to see how the light plays on a stretch like this. Notice the little red wisps of tail lights on the upper left side, as if they are floating in the dark.
This photo was actually taken several days earlier, in High Level. I don’t see this as a successful photo all-in-all, but I thought I would document my growing successes with star streak photography anyway. This was taken during a full moon, so the trees are lit up from that. The streaks from the stars represent over an our long exposure looking West and slightly North. You can see that the streaks actually have a few breaks in them. That is from taking seven photos total, all about ten minutes long, to keep the camera’s sensor from heating up too much. The photos were stacked after using a special program.
There are my photos for this post. Night photography is a blast, as always. Though patience is certainly required, I recommend it to any photog in the making. All you need is a camera with manual shooting and a cheap tripod.
See you next time:)
