Hello all,
As usual, it has been a while since my last post. But that is for a very, very good reason this time. I am once again gainfully employed! I’m working as a reporter/photographer again, but this time in the Nepean/Barrhaven neck of the woods. If you google my name, you might just find a few of my stories *winkyface*.
But the reason for this post surrounds a much more serious topic. In fact, not a single photo-enthusiast escapes this dreadful plague. It goes by many names: gear obsession, sensor envy, lens libido, but perhaps is best known as “what-the-hell-are-you-doing-that-camera-is-worth-two-month’s-rent” disease.
What I mean to say is … YAY! I have a new camera. And here is a little camera porn for you sick gear geeks out there:
Yes, I am proud to say that I have finally gone full frame. For those of you who don’t know, cameras come with sensors of various sizes. Larger sensors can offer higher quality photos, and a wider field of view. A “full frame” camera is one whose sensor is equivalent to a 35 mm frame of film. To geeks like me, that’s a big deal. And this Canon 6D – it’s full frame.
So, I thought why not show you a few examples of what it can do.
Here are a few pics from a recent trip down the Rideau Canal. It was a blustery day, but that didn’t stop my lovely lady from smiling. You’ll notice also that the bokeh on a full frame camera is easier to get as well, making some nice background smears.
There are always some interesting customers on the canal, but this guy takes the cake. You wouldn’t catch me out there in a kilt, no matter how high my socks went!
Here are a few shots of my fiancee’s parents’ lovely black lab. You will notice that, though the area where I took the shot is really dark, the high iso needed for the shot still left it useable after some tweaks in photoshop. With my T2i, this photo would not have had a chance.
While you never know what you might find on the canal, there are always dads looking after their little ones. Moms too!
Getting the exposure right on a black lab is … an interesting experience. Thankfully, I got such a clean file from my lovely 6D that I could tweak the exposure as I liked.
So there are a few reasons why I am ecstatic lately. But you just wait, this camera will be especially fantastic at night sky shots. Can’t wait to show you what it can do!
Hope you enjoyed the shots.
Feel free to Like, Tweet or Pin! I need all the exposure I can get in a new, much larger market.
