This post is the first in what will be a very short farewell series to the city of Ottawa. As most of you know, I am leaving soon for a reporter/photographer job in High Level, Alberta, which is very far north.
But first – The Ottawa Marathon 2012!
All of the photos here were taken on Sunday, May 26th during the Ottawa Marathon, Kids Marathon and Half Marathon.
As I live close to the canal downtown, the race was just a few blocks away. The place was PACKED.
While others had woken up early to get a front row seat and witness their loved one cross the finish line, I was a little slower on the draw. Instead of packing in along the edge of Queen Elizabeth Parkway, I went for an aerial shot from Laurier Bridge.
Rather than capturing the struggle of the individual runner, these photos better describe the sheer size of the event. There were just so many people participating!
Just before passing under Laurier Bridge, participants were handed medals, drinks and a shiny, heat-reflective cape!
Upon returning from my little photographic escapade three blocks from my house I experienced a certain sense of fulfillment and came back with a few good pictures. Though I am sure that what I felt was nothing compared to what the runners experienced at the end of their hot, sweaty, and challenging dash through downtown Ottawa.
There is just something grand about having the Peace Tower loom over you on a beautiful summer day.
Congrats to all the participants!
