Time for an update

Posted by admin on 02 Apr 2019 / 0 Comment

What’s new, you ask? A few things. A few things…

I’ve worked as a newspaper reporter for almost seven years now, and it turns out that seven might be enough for me. Time to go in a new direction.

So I’ve embarked on an adventure of creativity and exploration. Need some help writing website copy or a news release for your band? I’m your guy. Photos of a dance performance, concert or art exhibit opening? Give me a call. Video of your creative self doing what you do best? I got you.

In between helping other creatives by offering my services (check out my Services page for more info), I’m working on my own creative endeavours. Some of that is writing (in fact something big is coming soon on that, so stay tuned). Some of that is photography.

I’m doing more and more experimentation with light painting (click here for a blog post on what that is), and I’ve managed to get out and shoot a bit more recently. If you follow me on Instagram (search thekveton and give me a follow if you like), you’ve already seen some of this.

I’m calling this my #neoninnature series. The idea here is to get out in nature (and there is a lot of amazing nature to see on Vancouver Island) and add something to it. That can mean adding a fantastical element to the nature scene, including some commentary with some graffiti-esque light painting, or otherwise making a statement with the bold, bright artificial light in an otherwise natural scene.

This series comes out of an urge to be out in nature and capture its beauty, but to do something unique with it as well. One of the things about living in a place with so much natural beauty is that there are a ton of people who are taking photos of it. I’m not here to take the photos that others are taking. I want to do something different, and something maybe a bit controversial. Hence #neoninnature.

Let me know what you think. Have any questions on how this is done? Feel free to ask. If you’re local to Nanaimo, message me if you’d like to meet up. If you have an idea for this series, let me know. I would love to talk it over with you.
